Mel’s Big Day

So, according to astrologers, today is a lunar eclipse. It is the third one in the last six weeks and it supposed to bring together the accumulation of things that you have been working on. It is therefore apropos that after a very late night of seeing the midnight showing of Harry Potter and finding out who my faculty advisor is (I will tell you when I have her permission to say and I am so excited because she was excited to work with me…yay!) that I have two blog posts up that are pretty close to my heart.

The first is my piece on Alan Cumyn’s new book, Tilt on Through the Tollbooth. It was incredibly cool to interview one of my mentors about this novel and give him a little publicity in the process. Tilt is like John Green meets Don Calame and focuses on a sixteen-year-old basketball loving teen, Stan whose interest shifts from sports to sex when he meets one Janine Igwash.  Definitely one of my favourites fiction novels in the last while.

The second is my guest blog on Down the Rabbit Hole. My Little Women, Teddy versus Freddy smackdown is live. I ponder who would you choose if you were Jo, the Laurence Boy or Professor Bhaer…you will see who I choose. (I will probably post this article on this blog either later today or on the weekend as well.)

Okay, off for breakfast and to meet my new advisor. A busy day ahead of lunchtime book chats, a mini-alumni rez and my roommate’s picture book presentation. I’m glad that the gods invented coffee, because I wouldn’t want to miss a second of it.
